Harbor seals (Phoca vitulina) are known for their diverse distribution across the Northern Hemisphere, inhabiting coastal areas and estuaries. They are characterized by their distinct spotted coats which can be towards brown, silvery white, tan, or gray, and they have distinctive V-shaped nostrils. They exhibit a variety of behaviors, including haul-out sites where they rest and give birth. These seals are known for their adaptability to different environments and have been subjects of ongoing research to understand their ecology, migration patterns, and responses to environmental changes.
