About Common octopuses
The Common octopus is a highly intelligent and adaptable marine mollusk found in tropical and temperate oceans worldwide. Known for their remarkable problem-solving abilities and complex behavior, these octopuses use tools, navigate mazes, and even display distinct personalities. They inhabit diverse environments, from coral reefs to rocky seafloors, where they rely on their excellent camouflage skills to blend into their surroundings, changing both color and texture in an instant to evade predators or ambush prey. Their diet primarily consists of crabs, fish, and other small marine creatures, which they capture using their dexterous arms and powerful beak. The common octopus has a relatively short lifespan, living only 1–2 years, but they are prolific breeders; females lay thousands of eggs, which they tend meticulously until hatching, often sacrificing their lives in the process. Despite their abundance, they face threats from overfishing and habitat loss, highlighting the need for sustainable management to protect these fascinating and enigmatic creatures.
